Time Flies!

I can't believe how fast time is passing! It's been a lot longer since my last blog post than I thought. I enjoy visiting my friends and sisters blogs so much I have ignored mine! Yet, actually, I have been working at creating a blog for my wards Young Women. the leaders don't want me to post pictures of the girls, and I agree, for safety purposes. So I will use the blog for communications sake. I'm looking forward to getting it completed.

The semester is almost over and I'm surprised at how glad I am about that. I really enjoy my instructor, my friends and the assignments, but I am looking forward to seeing what I can do on my own. I'm also looking forward to Fall semester. I've decided to concentrate on drawing over Fall 07 and Spring 08 semesters. Drawing and life drawing are required, unlike painting, and I feel satisfied by my drawings a lot quicker than with my painting.

I am in the market for a new digital camera. Any suggestions?

Yea, a new post from Micalanne!

Your art classes sound really fun. I'm looking forward to seeing your drawings.

My digital camera is a Canon PowerShot SD1000K Digital Camera - Black. I really like it.

You need to get one so you can pictures of your kids on your blog.

The camera is $249 @ Circuit City.

If you want something higher end let me know. I have a few for yearbook that are pretty fancy, but really not necessary.

I have a Canon Digital EOS Rebel XTi 400D - at least that's all the letters & numbers on my instruction manual. I love my camera, but it is a bit pricey, but worth it for the quality of the photos.

Thanks for the blog idea for YWs. I am the secretary, & that might be something fun to do & yet another way to try to communicate w/ everyone! I'll have to think about creating one.

Micalanne,

The digital Rebel that LaRae has is about as good as you need before you get into professional quality digital cameras. That's what we use for yearbook and I LOVE them. You can change the lenses, and what makes it really valuable is that it's an SLR which means the shutter speed is very quick so you can take crisp action shots quickly. The regular digitals take a second to store the picture before you can take another one and the shutter speed is a tad slower so sometimes the action shots are not as crisp as the SLR (look at the trampoline pix I took of Cameron on my blog - they're good, but they aren't super crisp - I didn't use an SLR for those). That's why we use the SLR for yearbook - we need it to photograph sports.

We also use the Nikon digital SLR which is very good, but the Canon is a little easier to use and I just like it better.

The Rebel is the camera I usually bring to the family gatherings.

The Canon PowerShot is little and it's only $249 when you buy it online. It also takes video with sound. The Rebel doesn't take video. The PowerShot is the one I was using at your house the other day.

Don't pay more than $300 for a regular digital camera. You will get all you need for that price. If you are going to pay anymore than that, then pay the extra and get the digital Rebel SLR (LaRae's EOS is an SLR).

With the Rebel's lenses you can quickly zoom in and out of a shot, meaning your cropping will be better more often. Which makes sense because LaRae's photos are always perfectly cropped - with those lenses she can crop quickly before she shoots. And the SLR focuses more accurately and quickly.

If you can swing it, and you can, get the Rebel. Bart will probably prefer the Rebel. Get the PowerShot for Bethany, and when you need something little to stash in your purse you can borrow hers.

When I used the PowerShot in Utah and at your house I liked that it was little and I could put it in my purse, but I must admit, I did miss the quick focusing and zooming of the Rebel.

Does that help?

Plus the Rebel is SUPER durable. I've had one for four years. In yearbook the cameras are in constant use by teenagers who are not always the most careful with equipment. Four yearbook years are the equivalent of 15 human years.

Thank you Judy and LaRae! I have heard great things about both cameras, but have seen the EOS Rebel in action. My friend at school has and has shown me all the great things you can do with it. I wanted to keep his, but he wouldn't let me...

I have a Kodak Easy Share C633. My parents gave it to us for Christmas - nothing fancy - and it works just fine....I do like the 'zooming' it can do and it is easy to upload etc.... I have no idea how much it would cost, but hey, it can't be too much if my parents bought it and bought one for themselves.

Mic,
If you look at LaRae's blog, she has pictures of a trip to San Diego with her daughter. Those pix are super clear - that's what you get with that Rebel.
