Simple Pleasures

There are a few things in this life that simply make me happy. Pumpkins in their patch are one of them. Looking out at the garden and watching things grow (especially pumpkins) gives me great pleasure. We didn't plant anything in our garden last year and I really missed it. So, my plan is to plant the pumpkins the first weekend in July; this will give them plenty of time to be ready for Halloween! I am giddy with excitement just thinking about it!

I also love to garden, but haven't for about 5 years...when I went back to school - someday, I will again grow wonderful squash and corn, but for now, I will contiue to raid my dad's amazing garden!

The last time we did plant a garden, we planted our squash next to the pumpkins. There was a little wango-tango going on in our garden because when we cut open the squash, it was pumpkin on the inside!

What else do you like to plant besides veggies? I'm pretty determined to start a flower garden but I need to do some research on that first.

Dawnae - You didn't plant too soon. I just like to do it later in the season because we are usually gone in July. The plants won't have grown too big by the time we get back from vacation and I will be able to trim back anything that is out of control. I think you will really enjoy your pumpkins! One thing I like to have the kids do is take a knife and carve their name, a design, or a scarey face in the pumpkins when they are still small. The pumpkin will scar over and they will have a ready made design when it is time to harvest. Very fun!

I used to have a pretty nice iris area in my front yard, but it has been taken over by Mexican primrose, which in my opinion, is a weed! I look forward to the time when I am not so busy and can garden again....
