My Six Chix!

Two Days Old

Notice how they are furry with very little "buds" of feathers for their wings and tails. You can see the "buds" on the back yellow chick the best.

Jodi, each chick has had about 5 names each! We've tried naming them according to their personalities; however, I think we are going to wait until we see what they look like fully grown before we stick with any names.

But these are some of the names we have tried: Grace, Snowy, Cami, Cheetah, Chipmunk, Josie, Laney, Mikah, etc. etc.

I just LOVE them!!!

Angela, welcome to my blog! You look familiar but I'm thinking it is from blogsurfing. Have we met?

What fun. They are so CUTE!!! Know I'm wondering where you got them from. I didn't see a mommy, so I am thinking they can already fend for themselves. Am I completely wrong?

Hi Wendy! I bought them from a Feed Store right here in town. They were $3.00 each, which I am told is very expensive. Luckily, I didn't know the difference!

I chose them from a group of about 70! The feed store gets them in house when they are just 1 day old! And I bought them the same day they came in. And no, there was no mama; hence the need for a heat lamp.

Although they have no mama, they are behaving instinctively. At about 5 days, they started pecking, and at about 7 days, they started scratching and then pecking, and now they are flying to the top of their feed tin. They all began each of these behaviors on the same day and within moments of each other. I am wondering if any one of them is the "Leader", but can't tell as of yet. I'm very interested to find out if it is normal for chickens to have leaders among several that reside together.
